In the restaurants, the tobacco moves back. With small steps. "Since the beginning of the year, there is a true change of mentality among our customers smokers. They leave more easily on the pavement to roast some after the meal ", observes Pascal, waiter with the Table of Helene, in the XVIIIe Parisian district. This restaurant is one of the rare establishments of the capital to have adhered to the label "100 % without tobacco" with the autumn. In this small room square, impossible to create a separate and broken down zone smoker. "Here, it is so small that, if three people smoke, everyone benefits from it, Corinne, 38 years, a smoky customer notices. Prohibition does not disturb me, it is necessary to respect the others. The cig, that deteriorates the taste." In a corner, Guy, a pensioner enjoys his aglets of duck to bilberries. "I am hereditary allergic. It is enough that somebody smokes and that pricks me in the bronchi during several hours, tells it. It is another restorer who sent to me here. I come to lunch tous.les.jours."

Chaotic. A success which Helene Poitevin confirms, the owner: "Today, I gain much more customers than I do not lose any, in particular thanks to the label." But that was not always the case. With the opening, in 2003, it had already chosen a room nonsmoker. "I had a good third of the customers who set out again. At the time of the last midnight supper, a table of six turned back. Certain customers try to negotiate: "One can smoke if one is twenty?", "And if there is nobody any more?" And isn't my waiter, it a person?" Sat at table, a couple of tourists new-yorkais is pleased to be able to breathe: "" not-non-smoking" progresses to France, but very slowly."

Launched in November by the Town of Paris, the label "100 % without tobacco" knew a slow and chaotic starting. "the bond between the site of the Town of Paris and that of the tourist bureau which details the type of food proposed did not function. All is ready now (1)", explains Marguerite Arène, in load of the prevention of drug-addiction at the City. The list includes/understands trente-sept places, of which the coffee chain Starbucks, an Indian, two Italian, only one restaurant "gastronomical": the Robuchon Workshop. It is compared little with the 9 000 coffee-hotel-bar-restaurants of the capital. Certain professionals still prefer to propose comfort more than health: "One is a" salad bar ". It is said to them that smoke on sweet peppers, it is not terrible ", tells Ludovic, the owner of Elgi, street Beaurepaire (Xe district). "Their label, it is a fiasco", persifle one with the Union of the trades of the hotel trade (Umih), which did not want to join this radical step too much "and to prohibitionnist". Blow, this trade union launched its own countryside for the application of the law Evin, at the beginning of October. And was désarçonné by its success. "One sent 175 000 plates and one had 62 % of requests for feedback. One was even obliged to reprint stickers ", explains one in Umih. Where one notes a "significant evolution, the owners being little by little brought by their customers to respect the law". For Andre Daguin, president of Umih, the application of the current regulation a separate and broken down zone "smoker" if not all the establishment is not smoker de facto is from now on the parade to escape total prohibition. If the recent prevention campaigns and the doubling of the price of the package made their effect, of many places remain smoked out. 44 % of the restaurants do not worry about the law Evin and 26 % of them are still entirely smokers, according to a survey carried out near 800 owners, made public last week by Droit association of the nonsmokers.

Discotheques. "once that it was shown that the tobacco smoke is toxic and carcinogenic for the nonsmoker, the prohibition in the public places and of work is impossible to circumvent, comments on Nicolas Villain, deputy manager of the national Committee against the nicotinism. After Ireland, Italy, Norway, Scotland, and certain British cities like Liverpool and Manchester, it will be soon it tower of France." Even in the "temples of smoke" that are the discotheques, a change starts. To Paris, the Tango comes to organize its second evening without tobacco. "At the time of the first, people were a little timid with the bar and did not picolé, but at the second, they were released", tells a clubber.
