No π in the jar

A little problem recollected from Authur Lupton’s youth.

Take a cylindrical jar full of water, and tip it until the surface of the water lies along a diameter of the circular base.

Calculate the volume of water left in the bottle, radius r and height h.

Somewhat surprisingly the answer does not contain π, or so Arthur says — prove it.
