Philosophy Group 2011-2012
The revised philosophy group is essentially a discussion group. Topics for discussion will cover current concerns such as 'Consciousness' is it a function of the nervous system or is something else required ? What is 'Free will' - does it exist ? Are wars, killing, torture, censorship etc. morally acceptable ? The particular topics will be decided by the group and will be introduced via an extract from a substantial text by an accepted authority.
Alternative meetings will be introductions to the works of various philosophers. [Sit and listen unless you feel strongly about something.]
The starting date, times and venues have yet to be established and it would be helpful if prospective members would indicate their preferences via the ‘join us’ page.
Programme for Dec. and the new year will be published in due course and circulated by email. Intending members should contact us via the web site in order to be included. The series based on the ‘Great Courses’ series has ended
The Monday meeting has proved to be unpopular so the ‘Consciousness’ has been postponed to a later date.
